Paula at Lost in Translation presented us a challenge: Traces of the past Y2-06.
I decided to post this photo taken in Switzerland, is about the medieval astronomical Zytglogge, which in Bernese German means “time bell”.
The Zytglogge is a landmark medieval tower in Bern, Switzerland. Built in the early 13th century, it has served the city as guard tower, prison, clock tower, centre of urban life and civic memorial.
Bern’s most famous Old Town sight, this ornate clock tower once formed part of the city’s western gate (1191–1256). Crowds congregate to watch its revolving figures twirl at four minutes before the hour, after which the chimes begin. The clock tower supposedly helped Albert Einstein hone his special theory of relativity, developed while working as a patent clerk in Bern (Wikipedia).

Gorgeous Paulo. I was in Bern shortly for lunch in 1987 I think- I was still a kid. Do they still keep a live bear in the centre of the town?

Thanks Paula, Yes, there are some bears at the end of Zytglogge’s street.
